Would you like to play a pivotal role in healthcare? Would you like to interact with many different patients daily and know that your skill is helping them receive the care and treatment they need?

A phlebotomist plays a vital part in healthcare by collecting blood specimens from patients for laboratory tests used in the diagnosis and treatment of disease. Phlebotomists perform venipunctures, fingersticks, or heelsticks to obtain specimens. In addition, phlebotomists also work with laboratory personnel to manage, process and transport specimens collected from patients. In some settings, phlebotomists may perform bedside testing. Phlebotomists work in dynamic, fast-paced environments and are challenged each day with situations requiring specialized knowledge and skill. Hospitals, clinics, doctors’ offices, nursing homes, research settings, and reference labs all employ phlebotomists. Skilled phlebotomists are in great demand now and many more are projected to be needed in the future.

Wake Tech offers a one semester (16 week) program in both fall and spring that will train you to be a phlebotomist. You will receive intense individualized phlebotomy training in theory and skills, and complete a psychology course the first eight weeks of the semester. During the second eight weeks, you will actually practice phlebotomy at hospital and clinic settings supervised by highly skilled professionals.

Upon successful completion of the program, you will be eligible to take the Phlebotomy examination given by the ASCP Board of Certification .

To learn about the steps in the admissions process, select the Admissions option listed to the left. Qualify for the program by completing all the steps by May 15 to be considered for the Fall semester class and by September 15 to be considered for the Spring Semester class. Enrollment into the phlebotomy program is limited. For each Fall and Spring semester class, qualified applicants are enrolled through a first-come, first-served protocol.
